Planning an African Safari? Heads up… savvy travelers are booking 2022 now!
Were you thinking of going on an African safari in 2020 but Covid-19 put the kaibosh on your travel plans? Perhaps you are thinking 2021 is the year for your big trip to see Africa’s incredible wildlife and wilderness!
A bit of background: the majority of safari lodges and camps in Africa are small – anywhere from 3 to 12 rooms… in normal times the most sought after ones are often fully booked more than a year in advance. Giraffe Manor in Kenya is often fully booked 2 years in advance (and is already fully booked throughout most months of 2021 and high season months of 2022)!!!
2020 was shaping up to be a very busy safari year with most safari camps and lodges heavily booked. With Covid-19 ninety-five percent of 2020 bookings were moved to 2021. Couple this with travelers who have been booking new 2021 safaris for over a year and we find many 2021 dates are now full. While there is still some good 2021 space to be had (if you know where to look and we do), the larger your party, and the more specific your travel dates, the harder securing perfect space is going to be.
Gorilla trekking permits are also hugely limited. In Rwanda there are only 96 trekking permits on any given day. That means out of 7.7 billion people on planet earth fewer than 100 can hang with Rwanda’s endangered mountain gorillas on a daily basis – and let me say it is an INCREDIBLE experience!
As you can imagine safari operators in Africa love clients who book well in advance. They reward smart planners with early booking specials… as an example travelers can take advantage of free flights, free nights and even 2021 rates guaranteed for 2022 travel!

“I first visited Africa in the late 1980s. I came face to face with a wild elephant, and fell in love with being on safari! I made it my goal to create an African travel company that was all about authentic wildlife experiences. Many years later we are one of the top African travel companies in the Americas – known for arranging custom safaris to East and Southern Africa; personal trips, no cookie cutter stuff.”
