We Can’t Wait to See the New DumaTau Camp – Opening August 2020

DumaTau, one of our perennial favorite safari camps in Botswana’s exclusive Linyanti Reserve, is being rebuilt to a higher standard…. the new property, still within Wilderness Safaris portfolio, will consist of 2 camps – DumaTau and Little DumaTau.

Like Mombo and Little Mombo, DumaTau and Little DumaTau are sister camps, with Little DumaTau located north of the current DumaTau.

Between the two will be a new wellness space and spa looking out over the water, where guests can relax during the heat of the day: lie at the lap pool on the shaded deck, enjoy snacks from the deli and browse the trading store.

The architecture and interiors will remain true to the essence of DumaTau – that of Botswana’s bygone eras, ancient migratory paths and the age of exploration. The fire deck continues to be a highlight for guests as they are almost immersed in the Linyanti River, a fire crackling at their feet…

Being a Premier experience, there will be a number of enhancements.

The rooms will double in size and include a comfortable lounge.
The bathrooms will be larger with indoor and outdoor showers.
Cooling systems, ventilations and more shade will all add to the comfort levels of the rooms.
Each room will now have a more expansive deck as well as a plunge pool.

The main area too brings new elements, for example its own fire pit, an outside dining area, and a “curiosity room” where guests can explore, browse, read and be enveloped by the wealth of wildlife and rich history of research across the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve.

Then there’s the Star Bed – sleeping under the immense expanse of the southern skies, the sounds of Africa all around.

Why visit the Linyanti? The Linyanti in northern Botswana is a must-see spectacle, filled with varied habitats, prolific and diverse wildlife and wonderful scenery – together forming a fascinating contrast to the Okavango. Guests are likely to see lion, wild dog, hippo, buffalo, leopard, and massive elephant herds along with many other species.

Over 100,000 hectares (300,000 acres) of woodland, grasslands, unusual watercourses, exclusive 44 km of the iconic Savute Channel and the Linyanti Swamps shared between just four intimate camps (totaling 60 beds)– DumaTau, King’s Pool, Savuti and Linyanti Tented Camp – create an unrivalled atmosphere of remoteness and space.

As a comparison Kenya’s Masai Mara is of similar size but has accommodations for over 7,500 guests each night!!!

Actitivites will include professionally guided walks, day and night drives both on and off road, boating, star beds, and helicopter excursions!

Duma Tau will close November 1, 2019 and the new Duma Tau will open in August 1, 2020. Rates will be just over US $3,000 per person per night during high season (June through October).

“I first visited Africa in the late 1980s. I came face to face with a wild elephant, and fell in love with being on safari! I made it my goal to create an African travel company that was all about authentic wildlife experiences. Many years later we are one of the top African travel companies in the Americas – known for arranging custom safaris to East and Southern Africa; personal trips, no cookie cutter stuff.”
